Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Magneseal and how does it work?

The venting connection between the dryer and ducting to outside. Accomplished with a patented system that magnetically attaches to ducting system (eliminating the need for flex line) making connection and disconnection a breeze. If you need to get behind the dryer for cleaning or recovery of clothing articles, simply pull the dryer away and when ready, just push it back into place. Also provides zero clearance at back wall.
With the seal installed at the dryer exhaust port and boot to ducting, dryer is then pushed into position till the seal magnets attach (unit should make a ‘slapping’ sound) to the boot plate, making a sealed connection. The seal membrane absorbs dryer vibration and seal will not be broken if dryer is bumped or ‘walks’.

*Elimination of the flex line, so many problems with dryer venting so many dryer problems are solved. Magneseal doesn’t store “the flex line”, or connect it better, magneseal eliminates the need for flex line, making cleaning easier, improving air flow reducing drying time and allows for zero clearance at back wall.

Will it save me money? Will I use less energy?

With more efficiency comes savings. Magneseal eliminates at least two 90-degree angles in duct run usually utilized by flex line. Each ninety-degree angle or elbow reduces airflow ‘drag’ by up to eight feet. Improved airflow means clothes dry faster which saves you both time and money.

Will I need to hire a contractor?

A contractor may not be required depending on your precise installation requirements. While alignment need not be precise, on a scale of 1 to 10 magneseal may be a five (where framing a staircase would be a ten and changing a light-bulb would be a one). Some familiarity with power-tools is recommended, first determine which boot is required and if choosing the diverted boot kit is selected, determine whether or not the installation will take place in the wall cavity (no standoff kit required) or outside the wall cavity (will require a standoff kit), please note: if a standoff kit is used, zero clearance at the wall will be lost.

How much time will it take to install?

From 20 minutes to up to 2 hours depending upon specific conditions and abilities of the installer. For more information on the installation process please view our informative installation video (click here) and easy install guide (PDF).

Will it work with every kind of dryer?

No, magneseal is designed to fit any 4” diameter dryer exhaust port. If your dryer exhaust is smaller (3” exhaust port) we are sorry, but a magneseal is not currently available. Otherwise magneseal will work with any model of dryer; standard, high efficiency, and stacked units.

What kind of maintenance will be required? How often will I need to clean it?

There is no maintenance with magneseal, all materials used in manufacturing are of highest grade and specs are well above operating temperatures for clothes dryers. However, regular cleaning of ducting (1 to 2 times per year) is recommended (American Homebuilders association). To clean, simply pull the dryer away from the wall and vacuum, then push dryer back into place - make sure to listen for the ‘slap’.

How can I be sure this product is safe to use?

The magneseal has been rigorously tested under varying conditions. In all our tests the magneseal did not heat up to dangerous levels. For more information view our product heat and stress test results (PDF).
